Stained Glass Series

  I love the energy and joy that bold, bright colours bring. In this series colour is the subject. 

Each painting represents a fun and challenging puzzle I work to solve and reimagine with each colour that is added. 

By drawing random swirls and geometric shapes, I create chaos on the canvas and an artistic problem needing to be solved. Small shapes of all different sizes now exist, waiting to become part of the larger whole. No canvas is ever the same, making every solution different. Colour is added piece by piece within a set of defined rules decided at the outset. Using a mix of logic and intuition, adding one colour to one shape at a time, eventually the colour choices reorganize the chaos of the pieces and the canvas returns to order. The shapes provide a playground for colour, creating tension, harmony and movement. 

These paintings explore how colours can create energy, contrast and even change in how they are perceived depending on what colours surround them. Colours can work together, or set each other apart. The swirls and geometric shapes, like a stained glass window, are set together to form a light filled surface.
